Temperature measurement in a test stand for disc brakes
The application case:
The temperature of the brake disc surface is measured in a brake test stand for disc brakes in the automotive sector. In order to prevent the brake disc from being affected by the temperature measurement, measurement with a Pt contact sensor is not an option; instead, the measurement should be carried out without contact using a suitable pyrometer.
The challenge of the use case:
Different braking processes generate different temperatures, of which the development and change must be recorded, especially in the upper measuring range. As the temperature on the brake disc surface changes very quickly during the braking process, the pyrometer should have a fast response time.
Because bare metal surfaces only have a low emissivity, temperature measurement with normal pyrometers does not work.
With the IR702 pyrometer, novasens Sensortechnik offers a pyrometer in the appropriate spectral range for measuring bare and polished metal surfaces.
Requirements for the measurement system:
- Output of an analogue 4-20mA sensor signal for evaluation using LabView
- Simple configuration of the sensor using a USB adapter on the laptop
- Sensor housing in stainless steel
- Small sensor dimensions: integrated sensor electronics and space-saving housing design
The benefits for our customer:
- Significant cost reduction thanks to wear-free temperature measurement
- Quality assurance through precise, non-contact temperature measurement of the brake discs
- Fire hazard due to excessively hot temperatures is minimised
