Wear-free temperature measurement of bare steel and coating rollers
The application case:
Calendering and coating rollers and rotating metal surfaces are traditionally difficult to measure with contact sensors. The thermocouple tip rubs against the surface and often has to be replaced at great expense, the response time is slow and the contact measurement is subject to errors due to friction and heat transfer from the ambient air.
The challenge of the use case:
The temperature measurement method on the metal roller using wear-prone contact sensors should be replaced.
Because bare metal surfaces have a low emissivity, coating the roller body with black paint (also on the sides) was out of the question, so that non-contact temperature measurement with normal pyrometers on the bare metal surface did not work.
novasens Sensortechnik then developed the IR702 pyrometer, which measures in a special wavelength range and detects calender and thermo rolls and bare metal surfaces even in the low temperature range.
Requirements for the measurement system:
- Integration into an existing sensor network with ModBus RTU or optional output of an analogue 4-20mA sensor signal
- Simple configuration of the sensor using a USB adapter on the laptop
- Sensor housing made of stainless steel
- Compact design: integrated sensor electronics and a space-saving housing design
The benefits for your customer:
- Significant cost reduction by eliminating the need to replace worn contact sensors
- Quality assurance through precise, non-contact temperature measurement der Walzen
- Energy savings through precise temperature control of the heated calender rolls
- Cost reduction through less material waste in ongoing production
